A dragonfly can rotate its eyes through 360 degrees and cover with its vision the entire line of the horizon.
Especially nowadays, within cultures, languages, needs that often only draw up alongside each other, or even clash, without attempting to come to an understanding, there is an urgent need to promote the art of looking around, and far ahead, in order to be able to broaden one's horizons, perceive needs, develop relationships, share knowledge, resources, passions. It is indeed necessary to acquire a sort of circular and telescopic vision, in order to be able to capture an extremely wide, multiform and variable reality, and then to translate observations into constructive actions which could give concrete form to our reflections, good intentions and proclamations. Also necessary is to develop the art of a real communication, able not to hide problems and truths which are often difficult and harsh, but able to maintain a constructive horizon as well.
This is our purpose again, this year, for the Workshop that we are organizing. The field of action of our Department is the promotion of health and care for the needy and our experience of over twenty years of activity has shown that before treating the disease we must welcome the persons, look at them, listen to them and try to look together for the answers, without conceit.
Since 1985 the Department has been dealing with transcultural medicine, migratory phenomena, scientific research, treatment and monitoring of pathologies of persons at risk of social exclusion, and has been chosen by the Ministry of Health to become the National Institute that will have the task to promote the health of migrant populations, and to confront the diseases of poverty. Recently also in collaboration with the non profit International Institute Medical Anthropological Social Sciences (IISMAS), the Department participates in many projects in Italy and abroad with Regione Lazio, the Province of Rome, the Municipality of Rome, various Ministries, Universities and Institutions, both Italian and international.
The sessions of the Workshop, in addition to dermatology in particular, will deal with various subjects concerning factors of risk for health, work , nutrition, human rights and many others. The Workshop will be attended by doctors, nurses, psychologists, health assistants, anthropologists, sociologists, representatives of public administrations, schools, voluntary agencies, local organizations, members of Italian and foreign scientific institutions. |
